Fatigue behavior of unidirectional fiber‐reinforced pultruded composites with high volume fiber fraction

چکیده

Pultrusion is a high-volume manufacturing process for fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites ensuring high strength and quality products. However, research studies are very limited on the fatigue behavior of these products, especially with unidirectional fiber alignment. This study investigates pultruded glass FRP (GFRP) volume fraction ( V f = 65 % $$ {V}_f=65\% ). Tension–tension loading was applied different levels stress, frequency, gripping condition until failure. Results showed that {V}_f have significantly low life cycle. Moreover, increasing frequency better resistance, while tabs geometry has insignificant effect dog-bone shaped specimens. Comparison available literature GFRP lower performance than those . A capacity reduction factor also proposed as function

Lamb wave assessment of fiber volume fraction in composites.

Among the various techniques available, ultrasonic Lamb waves offer a convenient method of examining composite materials. Since the Lamb wave velocity depends on the elastic properties of a material, an effective tool exists to evaluate composites by measuring the velocity of these waves. Lamb waves can propagate over long distances and are sensitive to the desired in-plane elastic properties o...

Blast resistance of unidirectional fiber reinforced composites

Three-dimensional transient deformations of a laminate comprised of several unidirectional fiber reinforced layers perfectly bonded to each other and subjected to a blast load are analyzed by the finite element method with an in-house developed, verified and fully validated code with rate-dependent damage evolution equations for anisotropic bodies. The continuum damage mechanics approach employ...

Analysis of High Volume Fraction Irregular Particulate Damping Composites

Concentrated suspensions of inclusions occur in asphalt and dental composite resins. Concentrated suspensions are also of use in achieving a combination of high stiffness and loss (the product E tan d ), desirable in damping layer and structural damping applications. For realizable particulate microstructures, analytical solutions for monodisperse inclusion morphologies such as spherical, rando...

Fatigue analysis of glass fiber reinforced composites

Some structure materials can match the flexibility and effectiveness of glass fiber Reinforced plastic, commonly called GFRP for short or simply fiberglass. Even it is very high strength, light weight, strong, and completely waterproof, it can be molded into free form shapes such as aerospace structures, and then also it has its endurance limits. Endurance limit means loss of strength and stiff...

Failure Behavior of Unidirectional Composites under Compression Loading: Effect of Fiber Waviness

The key objective of this work is to highlight the effect of manufacturing-induced fiber waviness defects on the compressive failure of glass fiber-reinforced unidirectional specimens. For this purpose, in-plane, through-thickness waviness defects (with different waviness severities) are induced during the manufacturing of the laminate. Numerical and experimental results show that the compressi...
